Stereo install

I was thinking overhead console. I saw one once several years ago, but just thought it was cool, didn't ask questions. As far as the one posted earlier, so what if the speakers suck? Get different speakers. Or a better deck. I've made what I thought were crappy speakers sound pretty good by adding a nice deck.

I did a search for consoles, but couldn't find any. Apparently "Highliners" used to make them but have stopped doing so. I couldn't even find that company...

I've seen two of these mounted in trucks for CBs. That seems to be more what they are designed for. The speakers are really small. Seemed to work great for the CB though.
You could always get better speakers and paint it with there color match paint ($13 :eek1:).Has anyone tried to adapt a overhead console from another truck that came stock with one?

Didn't some late SFA Burbs get an overhead console?

The Burb console is too long (by about a foot?) but there is a place to cut it and I plan to:D Looks like it will fit and I might be able to make it look decent as well. It will take at least a little modding and probably more than I think:rolleyes: That's a future project though;)

Remotes are stupid until you use one:bow: I was quite surprised when I started using mine.

Yup everyone used to make fun of me cause i was the first to have one around here but when they saw how handy it was to not have to open the door everytime i wanted to change a song at a party they quickly realized :D

<----scratches his head and wonders where the remotes for both of his vehicles went to.

Glove boxes?

My plan is to use an overhead wood console my dad picked up in the 80's for his Furd. It will take a little modification, but I plan on putting the stereo, CB, and a storage bin for the cellphone and charger. I will have a location to move my Sirius receiver into, plus the FM transmitter antenna will be right near the stock windshield antenna. I just have to quit being lazy and go pick up the console, then start working on it. Should have Lexan panels for the front, with LED's lining the edges of the Lexan, so it should have light emanating from the Lexan.

I have tentative plans for an overhead console out of the composite glass/smoked lexan that I've used throughout my truck...

Thats really an extravagant mod right now tho... Far more important things to get to while the truck is down... like 1 tons and 37's. eventually... should be pretty cool in how it matches my dash, console, etc...

I plan on painting the wood black, which should match the rest of the interior once I finish redoing it. The plan is to use clear Lexan, paint the backside with semi-gloss black, then maybe silver in the center to look like my dash bezel. Then I can have lettering cut into the Lexan for switch identifiers. Not sure how well it will turn out, seeing as I don't have the mad skills you have shown.

i like the stock location because of the driver bias. i can see the issue of not being able to see it, but ive got tilt on my headunit, so that eliminates that issue. ive also got a remote so that would help as well.

Dual in Big Ugly and Pioneer in the Tracker. The more I think about it the more I beleive they're in their respective glove boxes under a pile of registration and insurance slips.

I have been thinking about ditching a normal head unit and just wiring my iPod directly to an amp. Then I just need a little iPod holder thing just to the right of the gauge cluster "hood". I never listen to radio or CDs anymore anyway. Now that I have read this thread I think I'll put my CB where the radio was.

can you wire your ipod to the amp?? i mean how would you adjust everything. I don't have an iPod but do they have adjustments on treble and bass?? or for that fact fading

just wonderin

why not leave the radio and buy an i-trip, plugs into cig lighter and broadcasts fm signal, its cool at tailgate parties..every1 tune radio to 88.9(or what ever you set the fm mod too) and every1 truck/car will be playin your ipod tunes!

i have 1 in my tahoe, plus an 1/8'' to tape adapter, i have the sony walkman phone(W810i 2G memory)..the mic has 1/8'' jack so you can use diff headsets...i plug the tape adapter into it and when phone rings, i hit cassete and push button on the mic(clipped to visor) and hands free...it comes thru trucks speakers, when hang up hit fm and ipod playin thru the i-trip,(it also can be had w/1/8'' plug, instead of ipod plug) thinking of gettin 1, set ipod to preset 1, phone to preset2, between the ipod and the 1500 songs on the phones 2 g duo-core memory stick(plus diff sticks, i have diff genre music), i don't listen to radio or cd's any more

I do have one of those FM transmitters for my DD. Works pretty good unless you are in a big city and all the frequencies are taken. :(

My iPod has a volume adjustment, what more do you need? :waytogo:

Well if anyone here has or knows of a good deal on a tuffy box, let me know :D Thanks.
