Well I Was Bored And Lookin At New Cd Player Decks. Was Thinking Of Getting A DVD Player Eventually. But Were The Stock Stereo Place For The 73-86 Chevy's Is Kinda Driver Only. So I Had The Idea Of Moving It. I've Never Seen It Put Right Here Befor But I Dought Im The First.
First Remove The Old Stereo.

Then Take Out The Glove Box.

These Are The Bolt's You Need To Remove. There Right Above The Ash Tray.

Bend The Piece Back To Make Your Marks.

Mark Were You Need To Cut.

Cut.

Bend The Piece Back And Put In The Metal Sleave.

Hook Up Your Wires And Your Good To Go.

For The Place The Stero Used To Be Im Cutting A Piece Of Sheet Metal To Cover It And Use For Toggle Switches. Ill Post Those Pics When I Get It Done.
Also Im Sure You Dont Have To Bend That Piece Out. You Could Just Start Cutting. But I Like To See What's Behind There. And Now I Know It's Nothing. This Also Only Work's For Rides Without AC. Unless You Want It Even Closer To The Pass. Side.

Here Is The Toggle Switch Bracket I Made To Cover The Hole. Could Of Made It A Titch Bigger But Oh Well. I Ran Out Of Toggle Switches And Checker Was Closed So Ill Have To Get One Later.

I've seen 'em put in the AC duct like you did before ... the one beef I have with it is that the head unit is harder to reach.

I was lucky with my CUCV; it came with the radio delete plate, pre-drilled by teh PO (a police department), so I mounted up some fog light switches in it:

On my sixpack, the only one of my fullsizes with a stereo, I used the factory location but reinforced it with a 1/4" ABS panel:

Then the head unit mounted up nicely (the previous install had a tendency for the CD player to slide into the dash upon braking, which sucked!)

And I put a changer in the glove box:

Both the head and the changer do MP3's, so that's 11 CD-R's of MP3's, enough music to get me to BlazerBash. Now if the motor was enough...

I seen it done before, but there's almost nothing you can do to these rigs that hasn't been done before. Looks like a good clean install, and nice set up for you switches. It'll make a nice place for a DVD with a slide out screen someday. Even the back seat would be able to see the screen. Nice pics and explanation, too.

Nice to see someone did this. i almost did this same thing but it would of had the flip up face with gps navigation on it. Maybe in a few months i will relocate it.

Mine for now is in the factory spot.

Now that, Readymix, is sweet. If I had energy, I'd move my CB there ... though it might get blocked by the dash bar I wanna do to my cage this summer. Huh.

That's SOO much slicker than just hanging under the dash though!

Thanks. I really had no other place I could put it. Like you said under the dash doesn't look good at all in many trucks.
I almost bought a Tuffy Security console but they are $$$$$$......So I mounted it in the dash. My truck never had AC though so I did not loose a dash vent.

Oof, fitting a double-DIN would be tight, though, and tough with the curve of the dash.
