Some radios in a k5 were am, am/fm and am/fm stereo. Were there special speakers for stereo? I think after 81 was when the dash was redesign. Prior to 81 the dash only had one speaker.
not until about 81The holes are already in the dash for the outer speakers. I would start there and see if you like it.
Was the center retro sound speaker a direct bolt in? Did you have to drill any holes into the dash?I just redid the entire stock system. Put a new Retro Sound deck in and 2 Hertz speakers for the corners and a Retro Sound center speaker. Sounds great.
Yes the 4x10 is a direct bolt. Goes in from under the dash, does not set like a regular speaker. I’ll take some pics tomorrow and upload them. The sides are 3.5” speakers. I went with Hertz, which were about $90 a pair. The center speaker was about $100 for the better version (two versions available).
Thank you for sharing this. I'm going to get the same center speaker. My dash is a 78 and does not have the two outer speaker holes. I don't want to cut the dash. I'm just going to run the center speaker. I'm not looking to rock out. It will be nice to have a speaker that can handle stereo sound.
Awesome. This is the speaker I have (not sure if it’s the same fit for you 78). I’m in the same boat. Just wanted to hear the music. Top is always off and it’s easy to hear over the wind and “blazer” noise haha. Let us know how it works out.Thank you for sharing this. I'm going to get the same center speaker. Did you use this mounting bracket that was supplied with the speaker? I have circled it in red.Awesome. This is the speaker I have (not sure if it’s the same fit for you 78). I’m in the same boat. When I was younger and kids were bombing around in late 70's cars, there would be one speaker in the center of the dash and one in the center of the rear deck, so R and L became front and rear. Actually sounded pretty decent that way. Some radios in a k5 were am, am/fm and am/fm stereo. Were there special speakers for stereo? I think after 81 was when the dash was redesign. Good question, I’m not sure. Should be 4 channels. One each for the 3.5’s and two for the center. So did you do this? https://ck5.com/forums/threads/left-right-left-in-the-dash.327149/ Or is it L, R, L, R?
