So the k30 has been parked in the Texas sun for 5 months now. My nos steering wheel is sticky after not being driven. Happened alot quicker than I anticipated honestly.

Anyways, a dawn dish soap hot scrub did not help at all. I dont want to get any more aggressive on product because it's in such good shape.

Anyone have any safe proven ways to unsticky a wheel?

I wiped mine, with a rag I had sprayed with silicone lube. It worked well.

Ive never tried anything else and have no idea if this is good for the plastic long term, but ive used windex on mine several times. My truck has a tendancy to get broken and pushed to the back of everywhere for a year before getting fixed.

I was cleaning the windshield one time and just decided to start scrubbing everything while i was in there- discovered the windex was pretty good at cleaning the grime off the door panel- i think there was some elbow grease involved for the steering wheel the one time it was bad, but have done it a couple times now and always comes out clean and not sticky.

Oh- also the shifter ball/knob. Seems to be the same material as the steering wheel. Works well on that too.

I used Laquer thinner on mine.

It was gross. Nice now even years later.
Use at your own risk...

I scrubbed the hell out of mine with Simple Green.

I've used several things on icky steering wheels and door panels --some that worked well were "409","Fantastic" and "Castrol Super Clean", (which is pretty strong and can discolor stuff if left on too long)-- and I used De-Icer spray (which is mostly isopropanol alcohol) ,some needed drastic measures though when those things didn't seem to work at all..

My parents Caravan had a gross layer of what was likely dead skin cells on the top of the drivers door panel & steering wheel and it resisted all efforts with the above cleaners,I resorted to using carb cleaner on a towel and a scotch brite pad or SOS pad to scrub at it till it came off...it finally came off but some of the texture on the steering wheel and door panel was rubbed "smooth" ..

Laquer thinner will dissolve some plastic and make them even stickier,so I'd avoid that--carb cleaner is about the same too...
Enamel Reducer or Prep-Sol might work without softening the plastic or making it sticky..

Some posts I've read on this subject say a "magic eraser" works well,I've never tried that ..yet!..

My computer mouse gets the same gross grunge on it,I have used "Invisible Glass" window cleaner on it and it works good..but that doesn't get baked in hot sun and go thru wide swings in temperature like a car interior does..

I ran mine through our hot tank at work and it's been like new for a year plus.

Wash with Simple Green till smooth, (not sticky) then treat with "303 Protectant" to replenish oils and seal. Just my 2 cents worth.

Windex is my go-to. It cleans much, much more than glass. I buy the $1 version from Dollar General, poor out about 1/3 of it and add ammonia (also from DG) to make it stronger. Dollar General brand is very weak.

I have good luck with "Greased Lightning" for things grubby from handling.

I love Windex for tons of things around the shop.
Sprayway window cleaner is another one to keep in stock. Foaming action.

It smells like the same shit the teachers used to clean our desks with in grade school.

So simple green is OK. Not ground breaking but it helped. It still feels kinda like it leaves residue on your hands but not really...

So it helped.
Maybe try some dawn and warm water with a washcloth now. Maybe that’ll remove the simplegreen feeling?
