stiff throttle TBI

Looks like I'm going to have to replace my cable because its doing the same exact thing. I'm guessing its not very hard to replace? What do you have to do to get that thing out of there?

Not much,

1. Disconnect it from the TBI and the firewall under the hood.
2. Pull it through the firewall.
3. Disconnect it from the accelerator pedal.
4. Slide new cable through firewall.
5. Connect it to accelerator pedal.
6. Connect it to the TBI.
7. Make sure it's all working/moving correctly.
8. Fire it up and take it for a test drive.
9. Park it.
10. Go get a beer.

Cable just snaps into bracket on engine/same thing on firewall. Buy a genuine GM cable, don't buy a cheapo you'll be sorry! I bought a cheap one from LMC truck parts and hated it from the word Go! Throttle was sticky after that, I ended up lubing up my original and putting it back on!!!

just out of curiosity, have any of you tried a Lokar throttle cable? I bought one for my 71 C10 but haven't put it on yet...I was thinking it might be a good choice for my sticky TBI pedal in my 87...http://www.lokar.com/interior_pages/tc_kd.htm

Well I went to GM today and ordered a OEM GM throttle cable for my 90 K-5. The OEM part # 15551476 and cost $ 42.00.

I put in the throttle cable (part# 15551476 - $32.00) today and it fixed the problem. Now its smooth as silk. Thanks Shane for instructions....even though I took it upon myself to add beers before steps 1 and 6 but your way would have worked also

Well, I finally got around to replacing the throttle cable this week. And boy did it make a difference with the feel. It responds a lot better now. The old cable was the original OEM, with approximately 120k on it. If you think about it that’s a lot of back and forth movement and stretching. Once again, thanks for the good info..
