I just had to order an overflow tank for my 1984 K5. I guess the OEM one couldnt take it anymore, It was dripping from one of the seams. I guess 26years is a pretty good run on this. lol. I dont mind put a lil bit of money into my truck every so often.

But this also illustrates the importance of general maintance, I was down doing my weekly walk around (check fluids, tire pressure, lube up door locks, hinges, cables, etc) I check the coolant and it was low. hmm, checked over flow tank and it was dry. hmm. So I topped off radiator, used a funnel so as to not make a mess and filled up the overflow tank to the COLD line, used a funnel as well. I step away and I see coolant dripping, at first I just thought I was messy pouring it in there. it wasnt stopping, so I yanked the tank and could see it dripping from the bottom corner seam. So I know this just happened because I did my walk around last week and everything was good. I just ordered a tank thru LMC, so hopefully it gets here in a timely manner.

If I have to drive my truck in the mean time, should I plug the over flow thingy on the radiator or just stick a bottle in the void with a hose going to it?

I recently had to replace my overflow bottle as well (for the exact same reason and place). I bought mine from Classic Parts and when it got here it was a Genuine GM part.
