I know if any of you guys that have the regular Acitate Red and Blue and clear Craftsman screw drivers thay are a few years old know they stink like poop. I'm attempting to return my old drivers today for the professional ones and pay the difference. My friend said he did and just paid the difference.

I don't even have these drivers in my tool box cause I don't want the screw driver drawer to stink. I leave them out in the open in a open box. Inside the box still stinks. I don't know what Acitate is made of, probably some by product of animal fat or some damn thing but I bet it deteriorates over time causing the stinky odor. Anyone else's screw drivers stink?

i like the screwdriver smell. It doesnt smell like poop, but it is a very distinctive smell

WTF are you talking about? Stink like poop! :eek1: What the hell has some one been sticking them in their ass or something? Mine just have the typical grease, oil, dirt and rust smell. Now that I think about it that would be a wild guess, cause I don't recall ever sticking a screwdriver to my nose to see if it smelt like **** or not.

This is common knowledge. All the guys I have worked with know the hadles stink. Do a google search, there threads on it.

:haha::haha:

Man that got me good.

The handles have a specific smell to them, even if they are old. Its hard to explain. Grab a screwdriver and sniff it and you will know!

(Has to be the Clear handle with red and blue)

I worked with a machinist who had his tools from his Great grand dad, his Grand dad, and his dads tools. He was a fourth Gen machinist. He had LOTS of Acitate handled tools for years and years in his box. If you got within 15 feet from his tool box you could smell this stench. It was the tool box in the screw driver drawer. It made the whole box stink like hell.

My manager came up to me one day and said "smell this screw driver" I looked at him funny and said "Ahh NO!" he said "come on, just smell it" so I did. I was like "damn that stinks!!!" He said it's George's tool box and spicifically the Craftsman handles or actually any Acitate handles. They stink like s**t. I said " ya know I noticed my screw drivers smelled too but I didn't think that was what it was" He said "yup, it sure is" This was like 15+ years ago.

mine dont smell either...just like the usual gas or grease or whatever I had on my hands before I handled them.

I seem to remember a smell of some kind with them. But I have not owned a Craftman screwdriver in 30 years. I like their sockets, and over the years I have bought a tool kit on sale from time to time, but when I get it, I take out the screwdrivers and either throw them away or give them to somebody.
I long ago got tired of them wringing off, breaking, bending or in general failing when I needed them the most.
I use almost exclusive Klein and Sons screwdrivers.

I spin the oldschool Snappy hard handles... day glo green for all the phillips, orange for the flats... getting harder and harder to get anything in the old handles..

I despise the soft grip stuff, tho I live with it on newer purchases...... if you can't wipe the handle off with lacquer thinner, I don't want it...

and, ummm, they smell like, thinner...... :wink1::haha:

I have Snap On screw drivers too, but Craftsman stuff as well.

IT WORKED! They replaced most everything with the new Pro stuff. Best thing is I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE :D. Guy just said just swap them out to the check out lady. I still need to replace some more but they were out of stock on some. I got like 15 new drivers out of the deal so far. SCORE!!!

i think i have one left?and i have never smelled anything..maybe cuz it gets cold here six months outta the year? or maybe Corey is right and there is a sissyboy around that is playing a joke on someone? sorta like dog shat under the door handle? but going that extra mile for the gag.:haha:

I had a set of Harbor Freight screw drivers that stunk for years. Made your eyes water if you got a big whiff of them. They finally all broke so I don't have to smell them anymore. :D

I agree with Boggerless, you must have a sissyboy hanging out and sneaking your dildo/screwdriver's on you. I have a bunch of them type screwdriver's around from over the years and none of them smell like $hit. Hell it can't have anything to do with the temperature, I lived in Vegas for alot of years.

:eek1: I know exactly what you mean... I thought it was because it was a old tackle box that I had the tools in. I dumped a bottle of old cologne from the grandparents in the box and left it outside. :haha:

No No No, Do a google search. It's common knowledge. In the manufacturing of the Acitate handles they use a certain type of acid. This acid smells really bad. It leaches out in a vapor form I guess over time. They don't get wet from it leaching out, it's just the oder they produce. God damn bafoons :D :haha: :haha: :haha:

well, after a trip out to the garage, I must have 40-50 of them in a drawer and it doesn't stink, none of them do. Glad I don't have stinky skrewdrivers.
