Stock 77 Blazer flipped on Ripley\'s

I was watching the tube and found Ripley's belive it or not....and saw a stock 77 blazer get FXCKED up! I did not catch the state but the name of the rock was lion's back....anyways it was some 4 wheel jamboree and this family took this poor stock blazer on this massive hill and tore it up! Did anybody else see this?

Somebody corect me if I am wrong, but I think lion's back is in Moab, Utah.

yeah i saw it a while back,,is it the one that the guy's wife was driven' down after he drove up,,and the brakes went out more than half way down and the thing just went flyin' down lion's back!!!!!!!man i felt so sorry for her...she had no place being there on that hill!!wasn't even use to drivin' offroad and he tell's her to drive down that thing..that blazer looked like it was doing 90 or something...it was kind'a funny but, yet it wasn't!!! these are the people that give 4-wheeling a bad name..

I've seen the video of the 80's K5 do a barrel roll down potato salad hill, it wasn't pretty.

Yes, it was all over the web when it happened a year or so ago. The brakes on the K5 went out.

yep it was lions back about a year or so i saw it on the tube and taped it it was not a good thing .

If it's the one I'm thinking of the driver didn't have it in low gear and was using the brakes to slow. Well, the rears locked up and she started gaining speed. By then it was too late. Too bad for the people and the K5. You have to know what your doing, no doubt about it.

Yeah I saw it too. They said its a 77 blazer but I'm pretty sure that I saw a full hardtop so it must have been a 73-75. I'm pretty certain that it wasn't a 77. I've seen it twice. About 1 year ago and 4 months ago. BigB, do you still have the tape so that you can check?

Was this really a recent happening? I swear I can remember seeing this exact footage on one of the "That's Incredible" type shows, back in the very early 80's.

I could be wrong -- I only saw the preview for Ripleys.. I managed to miss the actual show.
Does someone have a video capture card? I've got a lot of unused web homepage space.......

That is the one I remember. It was in the early/mid 80s, lost breaks, Blazer was dark blue. If it is I can't believe that they are still running that.

i've seen that vid. it actually makes my stomach turn, thinking about my wife and kids in mine, doing the same thing.
definitely due to inexperience, but are you 100% certain your brakes won't fail at a critical time? or blow a rear end, or lose a u-joint?
man, everytime i see that kind of footage, it gives me the creeps. even though, if i remember correctly, no one was seriously injured in that mishap.
anyone see the one where the guy was trying to back a K5 down a hill, and lost it? all his buddies were there, and at the end he says "please tell me soneone got that on video!"

I taped it last night. The bad thing is, Ripleys edited the whole thing so much that it is not enjoyable. It has shows the K5 starting up the hill, then they edit it to half way up, then to the top. They have interviews with the people, different camera angles. Very crappy job of editing. Why cant they just show the darned video without talking over it and interviewing people in the middle of the footage???? There was not a single time they showed the whole accident from one camera angle, all at once. I will try to re-edit it back together and I will capture the video so you can see it.

On another note, I dont think this accident happened because she did not have it in low range, or because the driver was a woman. What are you getting sexist on us now? I happen to think the gal did a great job of driving or they would be DEAD. You try to drive that K5 down the lions back at 35 mph, bouncing up and down leaving the ground completely, and Live to tell about it. THE BRAKES WENT OUT!!!!! Thats why my K5 is going 4 speed for some good old engine braking (no I don't mean breaking).

I saw the one on "thats incredible" or one of those stupid 80's shows. Definitely the 'lions back'. The way I remember them saying it happened was they went up and down once with hubby driving, no prob. They had so much fun he convinced her to try it. The problem was the brake fluid was already close to boiling from the first run, so the brakes failed on the second run. Ouch

, very frightening.
