What is the stock amp rating on a alt for a k5? I think I need a bigger one. When I have all my lights, radio, truck, etc on it starts to really hurt my power reading on my gauge. I have a NEW BIG a$$ battery to.
Thanks
Adam

When I bought a new alternator for my 78 Jimmy I got the "big" one at a whopping 61 amps, and it just barely keeps up...:haha:

In '85, a 37 amp alt was standard for gas engine models, and a 66 amp alt (RPO K81) was optional. The diesels had the 66 amp alt as standard equipment. I have the 66 amp alt, but if it ever fries on me, I'll replace it with a 100 or 140 amp alt.

I just replaced mine with a 140a from NAPA. Took about 5 mins and costs about $140. It also has a lifetime warranty and they keep them in stock.

hahahahaha
What amp rating should I get? I will be running a but load of lights, 10,000 LBS winch, Good heater, CB, a few new interior lights and equipment, a radio system (Won't really use it because I love the sound of my truck. But I still want one).
Would I be smart to go with a dual batt set up also? Maby dual alt??????

I don't have a wife so I only have to worry about paying a few bills and building the good old K5. :D Is it possible to go too BIG?
