Stock / big tire size on \'74 C20 pickup?

Yeah, I know, the sales brochure king asking a question like this... but the one thing they don't tell me is tire size.

I'm wondering what reasonably sized tires will fit on a stock suspension '74 C20 /forums/images/graemlins/crewcab.gif ... it has something nasty like 255/70/16's on these pimpy ass rims that need to be taken out and shot.

I know with my '91 /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif I did 265/75/16's ... I'm looking at this truck thinking it'd take 32's or 33's... any ideas?

Also, without me actually having the truck in front of me to look at the rims, does anyone know what stock backspacing is for such a truck, that I may find non-pimpy rims for her?

Yeay, but is your sister's K5 a 2WD? The 2WD's sit lower... plus the C/20 is different fromt a 1/2 ton 2WD anyway.

/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif looks like 30" or so was stock, eww, so I think I'll enlist the aid of the tire professionals for once /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif and testfit some 265/75's or so. 285/75 might be too big, though it's not like I'm gonna be articulating her much!

Interesting. Do you happen to remember if it had the original 16.5" wheels, or 16"s?

...now I gotta go see what a 31" is... I think that's the 265/75... fscking P-metric tire sizes...

they were 16" /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Stock / big tire size on \'74 C20 pickup?

Thanks -- actually, I can do the math (sectionwidth/25.4=sectionwidth in inches * 2 * aspect ratio + wheel diameter = tire diameter)

... my gripe is with the P-metric size concept. Why size a tire in three numbers, one in mm, one in inches, and one with no units at all? (percentage) ... grrr. What was wrong with inches, by inches, by inches?

Now, don't get me started about G78-15's and L78-15's and 8.75-16.5C's... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
