how much voltage does a stock coil on a tbi truck put out? is it really worth upgrading?

30,000 volts or so?
The upgrade is so that the coil can handle increased RPM. (talking about saturation I believe) HEI needs no help in the output voltage, it needs help in the RPM department. Aftermarket coil and module will take care of that. But it's probably WELL over 4500RPM, although that is typically given as where HEI starts to fall off.
