stock compression ratio and rod ratio

well, yours half right and half wrong...

the wrong part is both my blazers have bad engines, you got the names right with what vehicles... the one I got tore apart is Jedi Mind Trick (wild paint job)... it has a bad engine and a bad tranny... I'm doing them both (engine and tranny)...

as soon as I get that outta the shop I gotta pull in Insane Ewok and tear that thing apart...

now, Jedi Mind trick has the cam I was talking about (crane cam 114122, the vortec heads 454 tbi, gm perf intake etc... I wanted to put a 383 short block in Insane Ewok, bu t these 2 projects are taking place so close together I don't think I am going to have the $$$ to do that now...

...

I'm trying to really watch my $$$, and when I tear into Insane Ewok (which is all stock) increase my torque without spending anymore then I absolutely have to... right now I am thinking roller rockers, and a different cam (just because that total cost is under $300, and the won't make a HUGH difference, but a cheap way to add a little)... looking for really cheap options that will give me some more bang for my buck...

so, master Eric (you know, like master Yoda or something

If you already have the cam then I would say 1.6 to 1 roller tip rockers will give a decent bang for the buck...

Almost anything else that will help will set you back some more money...I'm assuming you're looking to build low end torque?

A friend of mine port matched his heads and intake manifold himself with a die grinder and a selection of bits...but this would help top end more than low end.

yea, I am definately looking for low end... so I'll probably rebuild the engine stock (have a maching shop go through the bottum, other then bad compression I think it is in pretty good shape), and add a new cam with 1.6 roller rockers...

at some point I'm sure I'll probably be getting a 383 sb for this... but I guess that will have to do it for now.

If the motor needs an overbore and you have to get new pistons bump up the compressio ratio to about 9 to 1...that will also help some. If you haven't selected a cam yet call the Comp Cams tech line and tell them exactly what you want to do with the motor and truck, give them all the specs, and ask them about their new dual pattern cams. These have slightly laonger duration and more lift on the exhaust side and compensate real well for not so great heads. I think its the extreme energy line...

I've got the Edelbrock "Performer" cam/lifters and intake combo - only about $200 total, and works really well. Most of the improvement is in the lower RPM's, with a tad more power at wide open throttle.

Clean up on aisle 3!!
