a buddy of mine is having a chip burned for his new engine rebuild. it is a 93 gmc truck with a 350ci the form he has to fill out ask for stock computer code. he was told it would be a 4 digit code on the computer itself. the only 4 digit number we can find is hand written in marker on the computr case.

does anybody know where this code is or how to find it thanks
 
Pull the two-screw cover off, you should see the PROM there, and the 4 digit code should be on that. Haven't dealt with anything newer than '89, so it might be a tad different to find. At least up to '89, the code ("BCC") was always 3 (early) or 4 (later) letters.

I think that what happens is when people buy remanned ECM's the "rebuilder" strips the labels off.

I've seen handwritten ECM notes before from the factory ('84 Hurst/Olds) but that's about the one time I've heard of it being original.
