I'm new to TBI with a 1991 5.7 Jimmy. Right now it has one of those cold air intakes from the PO and I'm not too thrilled with it. I'd like to go back to a stock or a round K&N filter. Anything I need to be aware of or think about if I switch the air cleaner?

Seems straight forward but I thought I'd ask.

My 90 Blazer and 90 Suburban both have stock air cleaners. They both have cold air intake, Thermac for warm air when cold and always shut when hot.

So why change what's perfect?

you do not want an open element with TBI...

So stock is the best bet, correct? I don't have any problems with that and actually prefer it.

Why is an open element no good with TBI? I'm assuming that it's because it lets in more air, the computer isn't programmed for it, and it ends up not running right for that reason. It seems like a tune\chip could solve that, but I think there's something that I'm not understanding about TBI.

Stock is fine for me, this isn't a race car.

Until you built a motor that needed an air cleaner mod the stock one with the GM Thermac is perfect!

Open air filters mess up the air flow to the TBI.

Looks like I have some learnin to do. Thanks for the info. I'll be looking for stock parts.
