stock rear shacke... flipped

Kenny,

If you know of where to get some, I would love to give it a try. Though I will need 4 total (I am missing my fronts at the moment).

but seriously, if you know where to get some, please let me know.

2WD hangers (depending on years) are a bit taller and give approximately the same lift as a "cut-n-flip". 4WD hangers for some reason are made a bit shorter. Just guessing, but it would probably get you about 2" of lift. But I've never really looked carefully and measured, this is just info gathered from reading here...

I suggest to save the money or ask Santa and buy the shackle flip from ORD.
They are heavy duty and it looks cool too. They are actually on sale right now Holiday special price: $160.00.

Let me tell you, drilling out those rivets to remove the old shackle was no fun at all. If you have access to a cutting torch, by all means use it. I didn't have access to one, I tried drilling the rivets out (all day one side). The best and quickest way I found to remove those pesky rivets was to use a handy cutting tool (disc). Cut the rivet head off, then center punch the rivet shaft out. I hope this help.

I'm confused....if a shackle flip only gets 2" of lift, what's the gain? Why go through the trouble ???

shackle flipper

I did the shackle flip (cut a hole in the bottom and welded some gussets on) and gained 4" over what I had. My springs are shot, (pretty flat) so I also have 2" blocks to make up the extra. I'm just slack-jawed glassy-eyed pore whyte trash on a budget, but I have a 4" lift on the cheap.

for me it will be more for pinion correction in my truggy since I shortened the wheelbase so much... plus, it took me about 10 minutes to grind off the tops of the rivets and four or five good hits with a hammer and a punch to pop the rivets out of the frame...

I will eventually make, find or buy a set of longer shackles to go in here. that will give me more lift.

mostly I am going to do it because so many people havent. the ORD kit is good and all, dont get me wrong, but if I am going to spend 160.00 its going to be on new springs or 14FF. especially considering that to put on the ORD kit, you have to grind off the rivets anyway. So, since i am working with a bare frame, its the perfect time to experiment.

The worst that can happen is I wont like it and will have to do it again ... differently.
