Stock shock length

I am looking for the stock length of my 1978 c35 shocks. I am pretty sure that they are the factory ones still, I wanted to replace them with something that is better,... ideas are welcomed as always.

Also, what is the correct way to measure the ones i have now?

eye to eye compressed, eye to eye extended.

not sure what brand shocks you want, but if you go to www.gorancho.com they give a listing for stock and lifted shocks once you enter your application, worse case you can use this information for proper lengths.
