Stock torque converter or higher stall

Good to know. Thanks again Greg and I will update when I get it installed.

Please do and as the others have mentioned, make sure the Trans has a gas governor. PM me if you need help with locating one

Ok wanted to give an update.I pulled the transfer case and transmission.I am going to clean them up this week in the evenings after work.I figure since I have them out I will replace some gaskets and seals.I will replace the front seal in the transmission. The seal in the trans/transfer case adapter plus the adapter gaskets.I will replace the rear transfer case seal.I am installing a new governor so that will get a new gasket.Anyone have any suggestions on where to get all the seals and gaskets in one shot or who makes a good kit?Any suggestions on other seals or gaskets I may have Missed or things to do while trans and transfer case is out? Also the trans and transfer case have a little over 11,000 original miles so not a lot of miles on the drivetrain.Another option is should I worry about the seals with that low of miles?I could just replace the trans/transfer case adaptor gaskets since it looked like that was the only place that leaked. Thanks for you help.

If the seals are pliable and not leaking my advice would be to leave them alone, replacing just the transfer case adapter gasket. I think too many times leaks are created with well intentioned seal replacements that go wrong.

That governor could be a major source of your issues. As for TC stall, really depends on how the truck is driven. A mostly street truck can get away with a higher stall, while a tow rig or rock crawler will want to stay low. Definitely knowing some more about the cam would be useful.

Just got home. The seals look good so I'm going to leave those alone.I am going to replace the adapter gasket.I am thinking about looking into swapping my speedometer gear because my speedometer is off.I checked today and my cover has 40/41 and 42/43 on it and my gear is black so going to look into that.I have 4.56 gears with 37" tires.

Any idea what the number of drive teeth are on the transfer case? The black gear is a 40 tooth, the housing will allow up to 45 tooth

Based on your gears, tire size and drive tooth count you will need to change the driven gear and gear housing to a 37 tooth and 34-39 tooth housing.

Ok got everything back together and what a difference.Thank you to Greg for the suggestion on the torque converter and for the governor,Also for the help on the speedo gears.I put about 20 miles on the truck earlier and no trans fluid leaks so far.Now when I put the truck in gear it will move under its own power. Before it would just sit there and you had to give it gas.Thank you to everyone for your suggestions.I think the only thing I need to adjust is the vacuum modulator. Now on to the next upgrade:woot:
