Don't you think it would be far better to design a system that uses an aftermarket dual or quad piston caliper vs 2 Chevy single piston units? I mean granted I guess the cost is probably cheaper. But how do you bleed the second caliper? I mean one will have to have the bleeder pointing the wrong way... unless you use a right and left... doh...
It was suggested in another post that you were using a very narrow rear axle so that you could fit duals on it without the typical "bubblebutted" dually fenders. True?
If so, I take it you're using this setup to go to discs and have a boatload of clamping power?
I also saw that you were looking for 16.5" dually rims...and those look like 1/2 ton calipers, couldn't you fit a 1-ton caliper on there if you're really looking to stop the SOB or would that just be gross overkill and too much work because of the different mounts?

Most of the GM front knuckles have clearances built into them for the caliper. You'd have to make a custom knuckle to match I'd think.

As far as two independent calipers on the same rotoro being bad, it's been done in other applications and I can't see any reason it won't work here as well. On the other hand there could be a scenario when one caliper would "hang up" and may cause some problems. That has been considered but since this is a prototype, I'll cross that bridge when it falls down!

Actually using a standard width SRW axle for the dually which, if research serves, is a few inches narrow WMS to WMS than the DRW. It will save a few inches but not enough to negate the need for Dually bubble but fenders, I love big butts and I cannot lie!
They will both be used for stopping and will provide for alot of friction surface. Actually though, "clamping force" can be less with more surface area.
Yes, I am using 16.5 dually wheels. Thanks to Eric M. they should be on thier way shortly. The standard disc conversion that has become so popular just won't clear the rims. This uses a different rotor as well to help with that scenario along with these calipers. Not 1/2 ton chevy, something else.
