the 350 in my blazer has less then 2k on it, im gonna pull it and swap in a big block, i wanted to keep the 350 for possible projects down the road and i was wondering how to store it?

i was gonna get an engine crate but how to keep the dirt and dust completly out of it and off of it?

tape off all the openings and cover it with a plastic bag?

any other prep methods, drain the oil and coolant, and such?

i wouldn't worry too much about the dust & dirt if you have every single opening sealed up with a good tape. I tried to store engines that were future projects motors in the shed with big plastic garbage bags, only to realize in the Arizona heat, after about a month or so, the bag starts falling apart. :doah:

There is something with the oil though, something about if it sits too long it acts like a mild acid or something, which is not too good on the bearings, can't remember right off, maybe synthetic oil doesn't do it, i'm sure someone else will bring that info out.

Tape it up, store it away. :D

I would go down and get some fogging oil from a marine supply store. Last thing before you pull the motor set the idle up to 1500-1800 rpm and spray it down the intake and then shut it down. It coats everything with a waxy oily film so it wont rust if some moisture gets in.

Depending on how long you plan to store it I would recommend removing the rocker arms so that there are NO valve springs bing held in an open position (they will become weak and break otherwise). I also suggest you turn the engine over several revolutions by hand at least once a month to help keep the rings from taking a set in the cylinders.
