how can I confirm this will work on my motor? I keep reading about them and they all seem to say "if your motor is of course drilled for straight across mount"

ALL mini starters have a straight across pattern AFAIK. Unless you have a way early 283 then it will work.

All the ones I have seen do, yeah. I`m wondering why they would say "if your motor is setup for it"
Did they not drill/tap those holes in certain year motors?
Some of the really early engines were not drilled for a straight across bolt pattern.
Some later 400s are only drilled for staggered pattern.
