Hey guys, it's been a while!
Here's what I'm dealing with... it's a 2004 GMC Yukon XL that's been sitting for many months, close to a year. It was driven daily up until that point. The battery is obviously dead, but I don't know yet if the battery is good or not. I connected a charger to it, got a few clicks from the starter, so I'm waiting to see what happens.
I'm concerned about electrical damage, and I'll tell why after saying this:
With the battery charger connected, I immediately heard sounds coming from what appears to be the intake setup. Like it was cycling back and forth. This noise increased in frequency A LOT with the key switched to the "ON" position. Also, there were strange pops and static-like noises coming from the speakers. The radio is aftermarket, but connected to the Bose Gold system with the appropriate harness. The radio is a touchscreen thing, and it booted up to a screen to select the language, like it's never been on before. I only say that to give an indication of how long the truck has sat. But the radio wasn't in a mode where it could have been producing sound. I assume the truck has separate power amps for the radio, and that could be the source of the sound.
The sounds from the speakers continued with the ignition switch in the "OFF" position, the key removed, and the driver's side door open.
There were intermittent dash lights, occasional "the key is in the ignition" beeping. I got the power window down and up. But the power isn't consistent enough to do that on demand.
So... Because it sat forever under trees, some water got inside it and caused mold. I threw an ozone generator in there and ran it several times to kill off the mold and improve the smell. It helped tremendously. But a friend pointed out that the ozone can be hard on electrical components. So I'm concerned/curious as to whether that caused corrosion on electrical component or connections.
Anyway, aside from ensuring I have a good battery, where should I start poking and prodding? I need to get this thing running as I plan to address the issues it has and start driving it regularly again.
Thanks!
