I was lucky that I found the problem in time. Hopefully this will help out someone else.

Vehicle: Daily driver1985 K5 with a 350, 700R4 and 10 bolts on 33X12.50s with factory steel wheels.

Occasionally I would hear what sounded like a loose wheel center cap on the passenger rear wheel. I would check and it was tight. Occasionally I would hear what sounded like the metallic screech of a bolt overtightened (or a hub being pulled apart) from the passenger rear wheel. Wheel was fine and no movement in the axle (darn there goes my excuse for the 14 bolts) Finally there was the sound of a pipe being drug from under the rig. Checked and nothing.:dunno:

Standing outside the noise really sounded like it was from the passenger rear wheel. The location of the noise is really hard for me to understand, since it was the front U joint on the rear driveshaft disintegrating. Some of the bearings were actually broken.:yikes:

you didn't do a good enough job then if they were only broken, now when you tear them apart and dust comes out where a needle bearing is suppose to be, THEN you have done good, or even better when the u-joint comes out in multiple pieces. :D

Noise travels through driveshafts pretty easily.

True, being hollow and all. But why only the passenger side?

Oh, and the bearings were well on their way to being dusty.

Man, I was looking at 14 bolts too. Oh well, if I do put in a 383 that should finish off the 10 bolt and I can claim to the wife that the stocker was falling apart.
