I filled up my ps pump today and for some reason it blew all the fluid out when i turned it with the motor off. (it was on a lift not the ground) And when the motor is on its perfectly fine.

It blew out of the cap by the way.

Was the system empty or extremely low before you "filled it up"? If so then you had a large air pocket and that will cause it to push the fluid out of the cap vent if the engine is off and you turn the wheels.

yes..
dammit, so i have to bleed the system?

Yes, just get the front wheels off the ground, start the engine, turn wheels lock to lock about 20 times. You might need to stop and check the fluid level after the first couple turns and add as required. Do you have hydro assist?

No i dont, but hopefully i will soon, i need to tap my box and have lines made.

Ok, the reason I asked is because when I did hydro assist on my rig I had to loosen the lines at the ram (one at a time) in order to get the system to bleed properly. Something for you to remember when you do go hydro assist if you have trouble bleeding the system then.

Yeah, same difference, just get the load off the system so you can bleed it properly.

BTW, I have a friend who just bought 2 more auto repair shops in the Austin area. He and is brother bought 2 in the Dallas area last year. If you ever need any work done I can find out the name of his shops and let you know. He is a very meticulas person and very honest also.

Does he do exhaust? Thats about the only thing i dont feel like tackling. I dont have the patience

I've had several GM's peuke P/S fluid out of the P/S pump cap when I turned the wheels with the engine off, while they were jacked up...(once it landed right in my face & eyes, got a P/S fluid shampoo too...)--I think its just the piston in the P/S box pushing the fluid out, back into the resivuoir, its "normal" for the fluid to overflow some ,especially if its slightly over-filled....

If you don't want to mess with the wheels just let it idle for a while and it will push most of the air out. Then take it for a drive with some turns. Check the fluid level and top off if necessary. You can tell because PS/ATF fluid turns brown when it has air in it, so when the bubbles are gone and the fluid is red you should be pretty well bled.
