who makes them? asking for a friend that has a 87 k30 swapped to a 94 jeep yj. he got about 700 to spend. thanks for the help

Centerline makes a street legal bead lock wheel.

The Centerline I.C.E. wheels are great, but 700 bucks will only get you one wheel.

I have always wondered if you take a d.o.t. legal set of wheels, and modify them with a weld on d.i.y. beadlock kit, are they still d.o.t. legal?

I am pretty sure if it still has the DOT stamp on there and they look well done, you wont have any problems. With so many people with fake beadlocks it makes it hard for the authorities to tell the difference.
edit: referring to a weld on kit like this http://diy4x.com/beadlocks.htm

Another cheap kind of beadlocks that are DOT approved are h1's thought the cost to make them work on your rig might blow the deal

I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for beadlocks, IMO the illegal beadlock thing is 99% myth.

Having said that, my Allied beadlocks have DOT stamps on them.

This is an age old debate. To this date nobody has been able to produce evidence that specifically a beadlock wheel is illegal in any state in the U.S.

Technically though, a wheel has to have a DOT stamp to be legal. The question comes from the idea that most wheels were originally NOT beadlocks and thus certified without beadlocks, then either some company to person modified them. I will guarantee you that if it came down to a court case the DOT stamp on a wheel that was modified after the fact with beadlocks would not hold up.

Now, do I think this is an issue or would it keep me from running beadlocks.....NO.
