strength issues with 5.13\'s in a 10 bolt?

I have heard that the pinion gear is weak on the 10b 5.13's is this true?? I will only be running these with 35's, do you think they will hold up ok?
Thanks

From what ive been told, NO, it will not hold up. 10bolts are not strong at all. go to this thread.... LINK(bottom of page (1) /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

5.13's are one of the weakest gear sets available. The higher the number the lower the strength due to the loss of teeth count and loss of actual tooth contact area on the gears when they touch. If you don't wheel it really hard it could last a long time, but it may not. It is all dependent on the brand, the setup, driving style, tire size, etc.

I run cheapy Yukon 4.88's in the front of my blazer with a 10 bolt and just got back from a snow run where i was leading, I have been running these gears almost 2 years now and have had no problems what so ever with them, while I know they arent the same, it is pretty close. My pinion was extremely small and I dont know if I would run those if you are going to be extremely aggressive off road like I am. But as Harley said there is a lot to be said about what your using the truck for and the driving style and etc.

I guess I really dont have a choice since I will be running 5.13's in the 14bff that I am building, I will be hopefully getting a D60 soon so I guess I will just have to go easy on it, I dont plan to get to crazy with the 10b anyways.
What will cause the r&p to break anyways?? same things that will brake axle shafts??

The ring and pinion will break if the backlash opens up and the teeth eat each other. The 5.13s have about 1/2 of one tooth of contact at any given time.

In a front axle I see no problem running 5.13s, I'd do it myself.
