Stripped diff fill plug

The part where the ratchet goes is stripped? Is it real clean in there? sometimes cleaning it out some with a small screwdriver or awl will help.

you mean the square hole is stripped? or the threads. i would probly drill a hole in the cover like you said. mine was getting bad so i replaced it with a brass plug that has a standard hex nut on it. i dont know why they use those.

i drilled a holl on the dill cover and welded a nut to the back side. put some silicone on the back side of the bolt and installed it. IIRC i used a 5/8" nut.

Weld a nut to the origional plug and turn her out. Eather get another one or use your new welded nut plug. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

finally got it. tried a punch and 3lbs sledge and just butchered the edges. tried a bolt, grinded the end into a pentagon and hammered it in, nothing just slipped, took the 3/8 extension, again, and put it in so it lined up exactly like it shouldn, corners of extension on flat (or what appeared like it used to be the flat side) and hammed it in with the same 3lb hammer and finall got it. guess, i'll either get a new one, or cut that one for a 1/2" drive. . .

thanks anyway.

Now that you have it out to to a plubing supply store and get a standard plug. Either a square drive (outie) or a hex-head.
