Stripped thread question

My York compressor has a stripped 3/8" thread in the aluminum housing for one of the mounting/bracket bolts. Do I drill out the hole with a 3/8" bit and retap it with a 7/16" tap/die set and use the 7/16" bolt? Just never done this before. Thanks

That would be your best avenue yes.

Drill the hole to 25/64's then use a heli coil tap and install a heli coil bringing the hole back to original size.

I just helicoiled some starter bolt holes on thurs...

Helicoil and thread locker on the insert.

Sounds like more work but it seems like the right way to do it. Back to the hardware store. Thanks fellas.

You can get them as kits. Tap, coil(s), and inserter tool.

No it can't be done as a through hole.
