Struggling with suitable engine replacement

Need to replace 305 in 85 K5. Many suggest 350 GM crate but ive heard that its not a big jump in power. What is the next step up? where to get? Or should I stick with 350 crate? If so who has the best deal on the 350 GM crate new? (some minor off roading but no major stuff)

buy a core 350, and build it to your specs. much cheaper and you know EXACTLY what you get then.
