/forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gifMy Blazer won't go! Can a transfer case get stuck in neutral? I have a '79 with full time four wheel drive, an automatic tranny (TH350) and an NP203 transfer case. I can shift in/out of gear on the column, and feel a slight thump, as if the tranny and the case are working, but no drive occurs forward or reverse. I put the transmission in neutral to change the transfer case from HI/LOW and tried repeatedly in every conceivable position to engage something...nothing happens. Can my drive chain be broken? Could my transmission be the problem? Please throw me some troubleshooting advise. I'm sort of stumped what to do first. Open my rear diff.? Drop my case? How do I check the linkage adjustments?

It could be a number of things from low fluid level, to bad torque converter, to (as you stated) broken transfer case chain. Is this something that just happened suddenly? Most of the time transmission or transfer case problems give you some kind of forewarning and happen slowly over time...not just sudden failure, unless a person thrashes on it.
