I'm trying to replace the stock steering arm on my dana 44, but the old one seems to be rusted on. I'm not sure if the cone washers are just rusted to the studs or what, but i can't get this thing off. I tried heating it up (first with mapp gas, then an oxy-acetelyne torch) and beating it to death, but it didnt even move. Has anyone else encountered similiar problems?

Yes, This is a very common problem. I got mine off by beating the hell out of it with a BFH, spray with penetrating oil, beat on it some more and then beat on it again. I know it seems like it will never come free, but it will. You can also do a search on this subject and find more pointers.

Good pointers. Also, when beating it, be sure to hit it down, up, and sideways. The clearances are tight, but once it moves, you'll be able to pry out the cone wahers and then get the arm off.

I had the best luck hitting it on the spot the draglink attaches to the arm. Just pound on it some, then to the sides of the base, hit the arm upwards. Itll come off.
