My buddy has a 47 Studebaker Land Cruiser Commander that I was rather badly. Price is right about where I would like it to be, and I just love the style.

So I have a 383 I have been building for years that is just sitting around on the stand. So I would love to drop that in the Studebaker. I was able to find disc brake conversion kits already, which was one item on my list. Does anyone make a conversion mount setup to throw a SBC in a Studebaker? Cannot find anything. Seems like a lot of people with SBCs in Studeys but no explanations of how to do it. I like to go into things knowing what I am in store for. I can handle it if I need to custom mount it, but sure would be nice to just quickly drop her in.

I know a guy who put a Studebaker cab & bed on a 4x4 K5 chassis. IIRC he had to channel the frame and lengthen it a couple inches to line the wheels up with the rear fenders. With the GM frame he was able to put a 350 in it with no problem and a 383 should'nt be a problem either. Were you thinking about trying to keep it as factory original as you can? If the frames in bad shape then this might be an option. Building a Studebaker truck is something I've dreamed about for years. If your start a build thread on this I will be subscribing.:thumb:

This is a Studebaker Sedan, 4 door car. I want to retain as much stock as I can. No plans to swap frame or fancy IFS or anything like that. Simple as can be. Rat rod, cruiser style. Just use the 383 cause I have it collecting dust and it will help motivate the car a bit. Want to end up bagging it out, I am sure that will have to be custom fab stuff so I am excited about that prospect.

For a Studebaker that old you will have to fab your own mounts.
If it was a newer model. Your 383 would drop right in no problem. Studebaker used SBC engines in their later years.
