Hey guys I am stumped, my wife's 92 k2500 drives just fine in Od but slips very badly in 3-2-1 reverse works fine also.
I verified the tv cable is adjusted properly and the fluid level is fine.

This truck was driven around its whole life in D almost never in OD because the owner thought the trans was luggin the engine to much..

Any ideas or am I buying a trans...

No the way it acts honestly feels toast and I honestly am just curious what is wrong.. Not goin to do much to troubleshoot it because it's pretty obvious it's toast. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem

That is a pretty odd symptom, the band that applies in overdrive is the same band used for second gear, and the clutches applied in overdrive are the same as those applied in third gear, so if those were bad from slippage it would stand to reason that overdrive would be slipping as well.:dunno:

I would pull the pan and be sure the filter has not fallen down out of the seal in he pump, causing it to suck air in lower gears but maybe have enough fluid to keep overdrive applied?

Im going to have to drain it to send it for a rebuild so well see what that looks like.

You have to pull the pan to change the fluid. If it is in need of a rebuild you will find the evidence in the pan when you pull it.

Does 1400 sound decent for a heavy duty rebuild with the torque converter? This is a bench job from the trans guy at the water district I work for.

that could be a good price depending on the upgrades. not sure if parts have increased lately but I did the same thing with my 700r4 a year ago and paid $1200 w/ a TC, updated shell, heavy duty bands/clutches, shift kit and servo(non-corvette) + a 2 year warranty with CRC trans shop in thousand oaks (owner is familiar w/ full size blazers). 2500 miles later and its still shifting great (the trans was original to my K5 w/ over 225k orig miles). be sure to install a cooler, but shop around for best deals in your area and ask around. A speed shop had recommended CRC to me.

The rebuild comes with a heavy duty furnace brazen finned converter with a lower stall. 5 pinion planets yes oem gm stuff. Heavy duty clutches and better band, corvette servo. Better orings for the molded pistons, larger .500 boost valve. 10 vane pump, upgraded sun shell. I'm missing stuff I think but he was very confident that it would hold up to me towing my horses around.

Cool, I thought so, the guy build literally 100s of these so I know im getting a good trans. he stands behind his work as well.

Well found out the clutches were so worn the friction material was gone and one of the lip seals for a valve in the valve body was torn. My buddy built it up and it works great.
