On friday i got a press from autozone and tried to remove my balljoints. I could not get them out. So i decided to wait untill i could get them to a shop to press the old ones out and the new ones in. My buddy called today and put a little doubt in my head.

I was pressing them downwards...Is that correct? or are they supposed to be pressed upwards?

i dont quite know what u mean but if the knuckle was on the truck you would drive them out upwards, u have to do the bottom one first though, are u using an impact on the press, because u will probably get no where by hand

if you don't do the bottom one first will u not be able to do the top?

if u dont do the bottom first u cant do the top, the threaded rod has to go through the bottom ball joint hole to work properly and u need the top out to put the bottom back in i believe, so the bottom goes back in first( i beleive its been a little while since ive done em) then u press the top back in, so its bestt to replace them both at that time, also i wouldnt buy cheap ball joints, moog is the only way to go as far as im concerned, they redesigned the top ball joint to have a grease fitting u can actually get at.

if the threaded rod has to go through the bottom balljoint hole in order to remove the top then press would be pressing the balljoint up? is that correct? i had my press set up so that it was pressing downward...is that correct?

yes to press the upperballjoint upwards u have to have the press going through the lower ball joint hole. so u dont want to have the press set up to make it push downwards, also dont forget about the snap ring on the lower ball joint

gotcha...just wanted to make sure i understood.

Ty for your help...looks like i was doing it wrong..probably could have already had it fixed.....:doah:
