I have an old compressor that I am firing up after many years of storage.

Its a piston type comp. , what type of oil does it need in the crank case?
Regular motor oil or a special comp. oil , also it will need to run in cold temps.

Thanks.

You could, but the detergents in the oil may cause a buildup in the compressor rings and such.

That said, Ingersol Rand makes a synthetic oil that I use in my IR compressor.

All Season Select®
All Season Select® lubricant is a synthetic, all-temperature
blend that is designed to increase efficiency, reduce wear
and prevent carbon buildup. It performs four times longer than
petroleum-based lubricants. Recommended 2,000 hours of
service between lubricant change-out under
normal operating conditions.
• Specifically formulated for T30 Cast Iron Range machines
• Extended working life
• Reduced friction
• Eliminates carbon build-up
• Longer oil change intervals - 2000 hours or 2 years
• Greater fire resistance
• Excellent high temperature protection
• Easy start-up

Thanks for the info

I think that in my old compressor I will run the 0-30 synthetic motor oil thats left from a few years ago , it's almost pooched anyway , no need to spend money I don't have LOL
