Ive got an 84 K5 with Stock 305cid, it has 144k on it. Under exceleration I hear a noise that is described as either exhaust ticking or valves. I think I may have leak where the collector and main pipe meat. Was going to wrap that area with exhaust wrap. But just wondering about the valves, if they ever need adjusted or if they are Non adjusters.

If it has stud mounted rocker arms (which it should) , then yes they are adjustable :D.

I'd forget about the valves, and check the exhaust. If it was a lifter/rocker tic, you should hear it at idle also. If its under load, more exhaust is trying to push through the leak in your pipes. Look for sooty areas on your pipe joints.

Quick and dirty way to check for another possibility, put in a tankful of 93 octane, run it a little while and see if it goes away.

If so, then you probably have some carbon buildup or you need to check the timing, because you're hearing detonation, also known as pinging, or labor knock.

Under acceleration, it's not the adjustment. It's either like Fordum said carbon buildup which creates detonation, or your timing if off.
It wouldn't hurt to check the valve adj too.
