I will be changing my brakes soon, first k5 brake job. The question, where should I jack from. My cherokee, I used to jack it at the axels, but this thing is heavy. Are the axels strong enough or should I buy/use a taller jack and stands and use the frame?

Thanks.

the "proper" way is to put it on jackstands...

that being said, i always lifted mine by the axle..

yeah just put the jack under the axle.. jack it up.. slide a jackstand down and repeat as needed.

Jack by the axle. Hell, you can jack on the pumpkin and throw in two jackstands. No need to jack twice.

He has to get it off the ground, first. Pretty sure he's asking for jack points to lift with before putting the stands under.

K5 axles are plenty strong enough to support the weight of the vehicle for lifting from the center. You'll have to do one side at a time in the front, though. Not because of weight, just that it doesn't go up even if you put the jack under the diff. My jack isn't tall enough to lift the diff high enough to get the left wheel off the ground. :wink1:

Yep jacking on the axles is fine. Definately use jackstands. I jack up the front using the pumpkin and since it is off center only the passenger side goes up and then I put a jackstand under it and I use a floor jack so I put my floor jack ontop of a scrap of 4 X 4 that I have and jack up the driver's side, then put the jack stand under that side. I like to do both sides at once. Less handling of the tools and seems to go quicker for me.

Thanks! After messing with this beast I should be able to bench press my old jeep!:D

yeah that should be no problem. my little wife bench presses jeeps all day. i think she maxed out at about 7 tho...

then there's me:

just add an attractive face and a bigger set of underwear to cover the "region" and that's an exact replica of my manliness. :haha::puke:

:yikes:

There's probably enough friction between those thighs to start a forest fire.
