Chevy blazer is stuttering and leaving behind quite a bit of smoke....

Help

Can I limp it another 150 miles

Holds 1800 ok (read not well but ok) on flats and doesn't stutter downhill but very little uphill power.

I just got within 100 miles of my destination so AAA is coming to get it. It got worse and I couldn't go over 45.

Is this your diesel?...if so,it got really frigid last night, maybe your fuel is gelling up or the filters are clogging...

It was inside last night. The garage is like 50 degrees.

Might have some water in the fuel, whether its ice or liquid,it wont run good!..--not impossible to get a bad tank of fuel along the road...

Maybe, but it feels way worse than just some bad fuel.

Maybe it blew a head gasket?....or worse...see how much blow-by it has...look for water in the oil...hope its nothing serious...

I hope not. I just dropped it off in Maine. There are not any major bad noises. The idle was surging when I started it up after the tow.

I have had similar symptoms from a tank of bad diesel fuel. You can read through the first section of my Suburban thread if you wanna see how the fuel turned out.

I had low power, blueish smoke, and it refused to restart when I parked it (early spring, so still quite cold out).

So don't rule out bad fuel without at least examining it. Especially if it started suddenly.

Setting aside the blueish smoke, a leaky air line on the suction side (allowing air into the fuel system) could cause all the other symptoms. :dunno:

Let us know how it turns out...
