The other day I was at work & I saw this Subaru in the parking lot...twas an Outback.
Now, a Subaru is not a Rock-Crawler, Truggy, or a serious off-road machine, but this this was nicely done and caught my eye.
It had the front & rear suspension and rear dif lowered about 3". It also looked like the top of the struts had spacers above them. The mounting was all custom done. The wheel wells had all been cut out larger. It also had dif-front and rear bumbers made from rectangular tubing (but this was not real well done). It also had this huge gas tank on it, in the original spot, that looked to hold about 20 gallons. The owner had used spray insulation to fill gaps in the fenders and body...but he had trimmed it off so that you had to look inside the cracks to see it.
The tires were 7x15R....about the size of the stock tires on a military jeep. They were about 6" wide....about the height of a 235/75-15 tire but 2-3" narrower. (for those of you that don't know, tall and narrow works best in deep snow and deep mud and water).
It had a rack on top....He used garage door tracks w/the curve in the back. The whole rack was therefore on rollers. IT locked forward, but when released it would roll back, and down so you could get to the spare, which would then be about chest high (in front of the rear window).
AND, it had side pipes made from 1 3/4-2" pipe w/glasspacks that were about 18-24" long...They looked clean, professionally done. I did not hear it take off.
I watched for the owner, but he slipped out w/o me being able to talk to him. So, I have no idea of what it was used for.
So, it had 3 things on it that caught my eye, the custom lift, the roof-rack on rollers, and the safari sized fuel tank.
