While i'm sure it's possible, I haven't really found a solid answer as to what needs to be done. I found an 85 suburban in okay shape, almost runs, not too much rust. (only $2000) and front bench seating. How much of a pain is it to convert that to front buckets? Do I have to weld/fab brackets no matter what or are there some buckets that bolt right in?

I realized all too late that the K5 doesn't fit a 4 person family and two dogs, one an irish wolfhound, in it with enough room to go camping. So i'm looking at this old suburban as a replacement project. The K5 will likely get sidelined for a while to bring this suburban up to snuff. Interior is in pretty rough shape, plenty of tears, missing headliners and rear carpet.

Are the floor pans sturdy enough to only need those aftermarket seat bracket reinforcement plates? I've seen them used and worry that if they aren't run through the same reinforced areas the OEM bolts go into that it might just tear the floor metal out in a crash.

Your bench seat Suburban will likely have 3 of 4 mounting points for each bucket already. The 4th is a bracket welded to the top of the floor.
