A local guy who has been bugging me to by my 1989 Suburban caught me at a moment of weakness a few weeks ago and made me a great offer that I decided to accept. That same week a local customer brought in a pretty clean 2005 Suburban Z71 that needed a trans. He decided to sell the truck as is instead of repairing it and I saw this as a great opportunity to upgrade.
So for now, I am sadly without a Square Body vehicle of any kind, but I must say, this 2005 Suburban has really grown on me as a driver. Mods thus far have been limited to Ford torsion bar keys for a 1.5 inch level/lift, 18 inch 2015 Z-71 alloy wheels and 32" Firestone Destination A/T tires and some detailing.
I hope I wont be shunned by the brotherhood for my choice but I've gotta tell ya, I'm liking it so far!

I have one of those too, damn comfortable daily driver.

plenty of squares still around

It's still a GM,so no worries..:thumb:..now if you had bought FORD..:shame:..

If you really want a square body Burb again,my '85 diesel one wouldn't mind being hauled to TX,too bad it sat here long enough to rot out the rockers and door bottoms..but I'm sure down there you have many rust free ones to choose from..

I think this would be a pretty lucrative market in a few years (maybe even now, come to think of it). You could start the next big craze!
I would totally do this now, but i have enough problems getting my stuff done now with parts that are meant to go together ( for the most part) more or less trying to mate a 474hp 406 to a 8 speed (which I don't know the name for - 8l90e?-) to a twin stick 205....

So if Greg worked out an easy-to-install kit, you'd be all set!

The electronic hurdles of adapting the newer gearboxes to older vehicles are the hold up in retrofitting. Besides that, I think the four speed automatic works great with the 5.3 in this platform. Unless you have engine software and trans software working together to control shift management and engine dynamics together it would be an endeavor of diminished results. If you really want an eight speed, hang a Gear Vendors overdrive on the back of your transfer case and split gears in the trans that way.

Love the Z71 GMT800 Burbs and Tahoes. I'd say you made a good choice. They did so much right with that body style.
