Suburban tailgate skin

I have an 84 K5 in really good shape body wise, but the tailgate is completely rusted through on the bottom. I have searched the local salvage yards but only find suburbans. Can I use the bottom portion and skin of the suburban tailgate to repair my K5 tailgate. I just can't bring myself to spending $700 with shipping for basically a shell from LMC.
