Anyone have pictures of rear differential clearance running the 40 gallon tbi burb tank in a long bed? I don’t mind fabricating crossmembers to make it sit back further, just wondering if it ends up sitting right on top of the rear diff. I want to make some sliders for the rockers and get rid of the saddles. I might end up with a CM flatbed in the future, but not sure.

Thanks!

Mine is a 31 and I set it so I could do a short box conversion.

It's close but clears. I'll look for pics in a bit when I get to work.

I set it close. Could have been farther back if I wanted. But when the tail comes down to the end of the bump stops there's still 1/2"-3/4" clearance. If I lost a bump stop in a massive hit somehow it would have to travel 3"-4" further and would hit the smooth pumpkin cover.

So in other words, totally doable if I push it all the way back on a longbed with a 31gal. Good to know.

Anyone do this with the 40 gallon burb tank?

There's a 6¼" length difference in the 31-40 gal. Here how much frame I had left to work with.

More like 10", but yeah around there.

I think that rear cross member was 3" at the top. Not sure. Been a bit.

Here is some photos of when I did mine, I moved the rear crossmember back as far as I could. In the last photo you can see how much clearance I had with the 14bolt.

It’s doable but you have to push the tank all the way to the rear of the frame as shown above.

I have a 31 gallon in my crawler and I’ve never felt the need for a larger tank with the BBC.

I’ll echo the above. 31 in a long bed. Didn’t feel comfortable with the tank exposed below the springs and right against the bumper

I tend to agree with the above two statements but also everything depends on how you plan to use the truck. Also if you run a receiver hitch it does a pretty good job of protecting the rear of the tank, the bottom however probably needs a skid plate.

Not wanting it against the bumper is why I pushed mine as far forward as I could.

Mine looks close but the axle couldn't touch the tank under any wheeling conditions without breaking parts to do so.
