Sugar in the fuel system?-update post 28

What Year is the truck?

Any other drivetrain type info would help. I didnt realize you didnt state a year.
I don't know myself. I just checked the door sticker and it was built 2/92.
it has the 2.3L 4cyl with an auto.
Would the Vin help?

Alldatapro says...

Fuel Gauge Resistance

With the sending unit float arm in the empty stop position, resistance should be 15 Ohms(below empty). With the sending unit floar arm in the full stop position, resistance should be 160 Ohms (above full). The fuel gauge should read empty at 22.5 Ohms and full at 145 Ohms.

Well, my multi-meter was going crazy till I was able to to hold the leads just right and move the float by hand. I was able to get the reading close to your specs. I just worried if my crazy readings were caused by me not holding the leads right or the sender is "on the edge" of bring bad. It only works good if I hold it just right.

First check to see if the leads for your meter aren't damaged. Connect them together and see if the resistance reading stays at 0. Otherwise, if it's like the chevy sending unit, you can get some contact cleaner in a spray can from radio shack and clean the copper wiper arm on the sending unit. Also make sure the wiper arm is making good contact throughout it's range.

Well. I held the leads together last night and it read 0.
I'll try the cleaner, and I may try the trick the Dodge guys use also.
I need to order a fuel filter and sock for this thing.

If the tank was really low, maybe, but they showed you would need a LARGE quantity to hurt anything, like a whole bag or so

Dunno about the OHMs on the sender. Might be able to look up autometer gauges for that truck and see what your options are :dunno:

Well I dont think any one going to the length to actually put sugar in your gas tank is gonna put a few tea spoons. From my expierence ( a jilted ex ) a 5 lbs. bag of sugar WILL DO THE TRICK ! On a rebuilt 72' Barracuda with a bored 340. Trust me it'l cease the engine for good !
Come to think of it, I still miss her. But my aims getting better XD

Well after reading the other link it appears I was screwed twice by the jilted Ex and by the shop which got for 2k to have the engine top end rebuilt> So who should I be more upset with ? myself for being a trusting 18 yr. old kid or the greedy machine shop ?

Update-I didn't get it running. I wasn't really motivated to work on this truck, so I worked on it little by little fearing for the worst.

I put the pump in the tank, hooked up the fuel lines, replace the fuel filter, and put a few gallons in the tank. I hooked my fuel pressure gauge and the truck made 40psi which is spec for this truck, but the truck didn't want to run. The few times that it would "hit" it acted like it was running on one cylinder. ****

Looked at the plug wires and those look the factory wires-from 92. **** now I have to replace those just to make sure I don't also have a problem with the ignition system. Replaced the plugs also. I seem like like only #2 was little moist from the fuel. ******* yooouuuu.

I probably could have got by just doing an ohm check on the wires, I didn't want to take the chance. Hmm, my online guild and the actual firing order have the 2,3 wires crossed. What the **** is it? Well let wire like the on-line guide because I'm not the only person to work on this turd. Still will not start. Now it is starting rain, and have other business to do. (this was last month.)

Well, I getting tired of working on this turd and I have it all apart. Hell, the fuel tank is still siting on the ground. I didn't want to do the fuel pressure test while the tank fully installed because I didn't what to drop the tank again. It was just that the lines and wires were long enough to reach the tank on the ground. Installing the tank wasn't big deal but the fuel filler hose was the biggest pain the to do. Ended up having take the bed off just so I could tighten one stupid hose clamp. Removing the bed would not have been bad if it didn't have a camper shell, bed liner, and the bed was full of junk. Plus the bolts to hold the bed goes though the top of the bed and the bolts have torx 55 head which I did not have socket to fit.
It seems like every Ford I work on are difficult to work on and this Ranger was no exception.
**** it. let see this bitch would run on Ether. Switch the firing back to what it was, spayed some starting fluid down the intake and it ran till it ran out of Ether. Well, it has spark and compression. It has fuel pressure at the fuel rail which the gauge port is also a pain to get to, so the fuel injectors are plugged.
This is one of my biggest fears. That means the sugar got that far in the fuel system so the motor probably burned some sugar. 4x4high wasn't the only to have told me told me the sugar glazes the cylinder walls. If I replace the injectors, the motor may still be junk because it going to burn oil and may not pass smog. This has spiraled out of control and cost, and don't think this ranger is worth it. I button up a few things and gave her truck back telling her what I've found and didn't think it was worth going much farther.
I decided to eat the cost of the parts I've put in this turd because I didn't get it running even though she offered to pay.
