Want some that will standup to 800-1000ft lbs of torque, 1/2" drive. I can only afford one set of standard and metric so I figured I would get deep wall. There are so many brands I've never heard of until today searching online. Sunex, tekton, mit, professional quality, nieko? Was thinking ingersoll rand. Want a set that will last a lifetime of abuse.. Suggestions needed. Thanks guys.

I always love the people that cringe and whine about the price of Snap-on (the only tool company that makes their own tools), but won't own anything else.

If you price Snap-on against any of the "competition", you will find nominal price differences, and massive quality differences.

If you want to handle 800-1000ftlbs regularly, spend the dough. Shoot me a PM if you wish, we often do BOGOs on sockets, where you buy the deeps and get standards free.

Gray Pneumatic makes some good impact sockets.

One of my buddys who is a diesel mechanic turned me onto em.

The old Matco guy we had said he had alot of guys that like em too

Biggest problem with those, is that they are larger in diameter than Snap-on, and at times won't fit where you need them to. The "other" tool guys sell them, and then when they go out of business, there's nobody around to warranty them. Not at all a bad deal, however, if you can find a brick and mortar store that sells them, and space isn't an issue, as I don't hear much complaints about them.

No one's whinning, just telling the guy that aren't cheap.

Snap On's prices are ridiculous. Nominal isn't the correct term to describe the price difference.

That being said, they are better, and thick cheapo sockets that won't fit into places will piss you off. I also hate how many deep well sockets don't neck down until a half inch or so from the end. Those are worthless as well.

2 things .

snap-on

& ebay for smokin deals on all tools.

i have saved thousands over the last 5 years or so on ebay for tools in new or like new condition.

but watch it. some tool guys wont warrenty them if thay know were you got them as you are NOT the orignal purchaser and its money out of there pocket.

I freakin love almost all the snap on tools I have ever used. But around here even mechanics have a hard time getting anything warrantied. We have had probably 10 snap on guys in the last 4 years.

Everyone of them was, well a tool.

1/2" impacts? just shop Snappy on eghey.... you'll find tons of sets of sockets... i just got a brand new set of shallows for $55 shipped... you should be able to get a set of deeps for under $150 easy...

here's a lightly used set for $129 with just a cursory look..

And yet your ignorance speaks volumes. If you did any research, you might understand, but I wouldn't expect you to. It's obvious you're set on your opinions, without any facts to back them. :waytogo:

I digress. EvilBay is a good place to find a deal, as are pawn shops. Hell, as a tool dealer, I even hunt the local flea market when i want to expand my collection of the antique stuff for my display in the truck. I have seen brand new sets for sale there cheap, as well.

How so???

Snap-On's prices are all the facts I need. They're ridiculous. EVERYONE knows that.

They are also better tools.

Are you sure those are Snap On's? They must be older if they are. Look at the smaller sockets, they neck down a half inch from the end. Unless Snap On started making their sockets that way again (which I hope they didn't, that is one they I hate about cheap sockets).

I'd demand an up-close photo of the part numbers, if those are snappy, they are old... very old.

Prices reflect quality when you buy tools. When you buy tools from the ONLY manufacturer that still produces their own, you pay a little more. You also get tighter tolerances, concentric broaching, and a higher quality end product. Not exactly a legitimate reason to cry wolf about pricing, is it? Compare apples to apples (which you cannot in the case of tools), and you would be able to talk price.

They don.t look like snap on to me either. Interesting that seller won.t show a close up pic of the snap on logo. I am willing to pay for quality but $60 vs $380 ia a huge difference. Confedneck pm sent.

i would buy old snap on hand tools any day over the new stuff, seeing how it comes from china now...and if snap on is a fair value then i guess $5 gal gas is a fair value also..:screwy::sign27:

i wouldnt buy old snappy stuff because they wont warrantee them if they are older than you.

I've had Snap On tools that are older than me warrantied before. It all depends upon your dealer (and how much money you spend on their truck).

this is very true, it all depends on your dealer, unfortunately,,

this is why i tell those that are so pro snappy because of there warranty that they are full of crap.. snap on life time warranty means nothing its all up to the truck monkey!

in my part of the country we also have Cornwell.. now there is a company that stands behind there product! IMO:laugh:
