Posted this in "The Body Shop." Figured I'd see what kinda ideas I could get here.

I want to try to clean up some surface rust on the frame and underbody of my jimmy, but don't have the resources to lift the body completely off the frame. Any suggestions on how I can get this done? I want to be able to get the entire frame. I don't want to half a$$ it. I've installed a body lift before and was thinking of a similar method.

I believe if you look through Ryoken's build thread he did similiar. He had the advantage of no floors in the Blazer, but same idea. He did say that he wouldn't recommend doing it that way again, since it was so much more work than just pulling the body and doing it in one shot.

If you can get the body clear by a few inches you may be able to get a wire wheel mounted on a grinder in to remove the loose stuff and rust.

Removing the body from the frame is really not that bad to do. I just finished putting my frame back under the tub recently after I had redone the frame and "bedlinered" the entire underside.

I did this in my garage, my small garage, by myself  with no special tools other then some jack stands, a good floor jack and some industrial racks that I had laying around from our shop. I supported the body and basicly dropped the frame out from under it, now granted I went "all the way" and had the frame bare when I dropped it.

It wasn't really to bad to do, it was alot of work , and I had originally planned on just seperating them a few inches, but later decided to just go for it.

I have some pics in my build thread of the tub sitting on the racking, hopefully they might give you some ideas :D

I'm pretty sure I can lift the body off several inches at least 5-6. That should be enough to get in there with something to knock some rust off. Maybe with some railroad ties and some bottle jacks I could lift the entire body at once rather that one side then the other.

Now i dont know if this would work but just a redneck injenuity type idea. Why not take a tow strap put it over a thick oak branch or sumthing similar and use a come along with some chains and see if you can just rais the body up enuff to do what you need too. Like i said no idea if it would work but just an idea. if the weight would be too much maybe just do one end at a time raise the front then the rear. i would think doin it this way would also make the body easy to just lower back on. Any way just an idea.

I am thinking about taking the body off the frame on my rig too, debating different ideas as to how. Can't really offer ya any suggestion but, I am definitely gonna be watching this thread! Good luck bro, and be safe!
