I have a stock 350 in my girl and thinking of either rebuilding the carb or going high performance, like Holley or Edebrock... what say ya'll? Pros n cons?

I prefer the q jet. But b4 you start your rebuild check the front where the long bolts are. Make sure the top, air horn, and bowl are square. Those two bolts get over tightened and bend the carb. If it's bent you will need another carb

The quadrajet is one reliable and useable carb. I say rebuild it and use it.

Certainly you can find the few hundred dollars you saved in carb on something else. Off-road lights, replacement muffler (for sound), towards wheels/tires.
The reason for my opinion is a stock 350 doesn’t benefit from a carb swap.

After having dealt with a few old Q-jets in my day the one big problem I have seen on most old Q-jets is the trhottle shaft bore being worn out, and causing a massive vacuum leak. Not many people know how to do a throttle shaft bushing kit on Q-jets. Another problem with worn out throtttle bore is the primaries snaging the throttle bore, and hanging the throttle open causing the idle to be too high.

yes worn throttle bushing are/can be an issue, not confined to q jets, any throttle blade on shaft can have this issue. Is a factor more so with q jets since they are all used now, no new ones available.
We just lost a good source for bushing repair, owner passed away. Carburetor Engineering in Burbank is gone also.
I have bought parts from this company, but have not used their services. They can and do replace throttle bushings

You’re right, that definitely does happen.

Im of the thought that if a q jet needs a significant repair, just slap an edelbrock and don’t look back. Pretty cheap and have been good to me in the past. But so has a freshly built q jet.

The Edelbrock carb needs fuel pressure regulators, in order to perform correctly. Q-jets do not need fuel pressure regulators as much. Back in day when the Edelbrock carb was known as the Carter AFB I ran low budget dial regulators between the fuel tank and the fuel pump, and another one between the fuel pump and the carb. I have also done the same thing with the Edelbrock Performer vesion of the Carter AFB as well. This worked pretty well.

Yup thats who I was trying to remember, age virus stole the name from me.

I had Sean Murphy Induction go through my Quadrajet years ago. He did a good job and even made it run better with the modifications I have done to my big block.
He's in California, so shipping will add time, but he probably has core carburetors, I even sold him a couple.

I've never had any problems with my Qjets. Just put a fuel filter between the pump and the carb. I just wish I had not accidentally gotten rid of my 800 cfm one I had for my 76. I only say that because the Jimmy could use it. If I ever have problems with the current carb on the Jimmy and its time for a rebuild, I will just buy one from Sean Murphy. Reasonable prices for an 800 cfm with mods. Thanks for the tip 6872xtc

I will tell you that mine is a 750 cfm, and it was fine until I put a solid roller cam in and bumped the compression up some. It didn't like it at all. SMI fixed it. The bushings had been done in mine several years before sending it to SMI, so I know that my problem was the cam swap.
This reminds me, I should get one from him for the 400SB K10...

@79jenny , sorry to gab about my modified truck, however depending on your elevation, you could possibly benefit from some little tweaks of your stick carburetor on top of a refresh.
