yah it jusr replaces your heater core and cleans up the firewall because your fan housing gets replaced.

it has its own fan, and there is a heater hose kit you can buy but im gonna come up with my own hose system so i still have defrost. but from what i hear they put out some good heat and you dont even need defrost.

Bought one of those a few weeks back. I installed it in a few hours. A very easy install. I have yet to figure out where exactly to put the vents so I just placed them on the tranny tunnel for now. Took the truck out to Plaster City / Occitio Wells over the new years and, in the freezing temperatures, it worked great! I installed it behind the glove box just where the stock heater lines go through the firewall. Although the unit is much smaller than the factory heater box, it is deeper. I had to angle it a bit down and mounted it with metal strapping tape. The back of the glovebox does hit the heater box when closed so I may have to rethink the mounting arrangement. It seems that there is actually more room behind the center part of the dash so that might be a better place for the unit. The great thing about the heater box is the only control for it is a rotary switch for the three speed fan. The area vacated by the factory heater switch is going to house my dual battery switch, heater control knob and A/V inputs/ selector switch for my rear view mirror/monitor .
The heater blows plenty of volume and nice and toasty in the cab now!
A couple of notes:
- unless you duct air from the outside, the unit only recircs the cabin air. This is a very simple heater
- because of this (read above) You'll need to block off the fresh air intake that was used buy the factory heater box. On my '73 Blazer, this is located in the passenger footwell, all the way front and all the way right. The fresh air vent was controlled by the heater control via vacum line.
- There is no heater core bypass or shut off. You will NOT be able to use the fan without the heat unless you install a shut off or bypass valve. I don't see that as much of a problem in my application.
- make sure to grommet or somehow protect the heater lines going through the firewall. The factory heater core had its copper tubes going through the firewall so grommets were not neccesary. You'll need them now.

yah im thinking about putting mine right on top of the tranny tunnel and will be mounting my CB where the stock heater controls are. also i already thought of the grommet issue and think i have a different way of going but have to wait and check it out.

I have 2 of these heaters, one in my 74 chevy and one in my 80 toyota. They mount simple, use 5/8 heater hose for both ports where my factory chevy crap used 3/4 for one and 5/8 for the other hose. For the defroster, I only did it to the toyota because the def. vents are round on the end to make it easier to adapt the ducting kit to it, plus its my daily driver and it has to have defrost. The chevy has a square bottom def. vent and looks more tricky to make it work with round ducting, so im not going to bother. If you want to have cool air circulate thru the heater, a valve is needed to stop the flow of hot water to the heater, there is a factory toyota valve that will work perfect for this and it even has mounting holes on it and a spot for a cable, or you can use a dodge valve from a powerwagon that also has mounting holes on it with a spot for a cable.
btw, that heater in the toyota is overkill, must have a window open or its too hot.

yup, mine rocks too... I'm thinking it's actually better than the Mojave.. but I haven't seen one of those for comparison...
stock heat doesn't cost anything, but a $150 mod that you gain oodles of space from, worth every penny..

yah i just got mine today but i have national guards all weekend so it will be monday before i even see my truck again 
they definately didnt want it to get damaged lol i had to open 3 boxes before i actually got to the heater. it looks like some good craftsmanship on this thing and i like the heater switch

I just talked the wife into letting me buy one of these. Our K5 has no top or doors but it needs some sort of defrost and I heard you can run some tubes to the heater and slip them in you snowsuit for winter wheeling.
