Super Heavy Duty D60 & 14bolt diff cover...

I guess I don't like to ad any extra weight anymore. I've spent way to much time taking it out. Some guys are even going to the extreme and gun drilling the axle shafts. supposedly saves you 7 lbs. That's probably an extreme the other way but if I had a lathe and the bits I'd do it. To each his own and it does look like a nice product. Never seen one in person.

JJlaughner did a fantastic job on his cover. I wish I had done mine exactly the same way.

The cover is not 1/2" thick. The mounting ring is 1/2" thinck. The rest of the cover is 1/4". I think someone already mentioned this.

The bolt ring is made of high grade 1/2 inch thick P&O steel. For superior strength the ring gear cover is fabricated from a single piece of 1/4 inch thick high grade P&O steel (not several pieces like some)

I'm a do it yourselfer, which is why I bought DIY4X cover kits a while back. I haven't quite finished mine but so far the plans I have for them only use the ring from the kit and a small portion of the top plate. I'll be using all 1/4" thick material for mine and it will cost me less than $50 by the time I'm finished (that's for both covers!). /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif These ebay jobbers are good, but like most others I'm not a big fan of adding extra weight. I've got way too much weight just keeping the stock sheet metal /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

jj's 14 bolt cover is about 3 times heavier than my '60 cover, just for reference.

If anyone wants my cover, I'll sell it to you for $110 shipped. Still cheaper than ebay and it's brand new. I took it out of the box and set it on the floor in the living room, it's been there for two months and I'm not going to get the chance to use it this year.

That's what DIY4X is all about. Saving you money! I do absolutely everything that I can on my truck in the attempt to save cash.

yea I got the ring from DIY4x and made mt own but then again it was alot of work, but if you dont have the tools/skills to make one I think that cover is a good choice.

that guy sells em for $95+s/h on pirate... for the extra $15 he can recess the holes in the ring so the bolt heads dont get damaged by rocks.

What does the weight of the cover have to do with the weight of the axle? You lost me on that one. IMO there is armor and then there is just plain over built. Beyond a certain thickness your just wasting your time and hard earned cash and for what. More weight to drag around.

With mounting the ram, I hear eventually the ram will shift the cover and start it to leaking. That's just what i've been told. I wouldn't go that route but that's me.

Kert, that make a LOT of sence. The bolts that hold the front cover on are not very big to start with. Doesn't sound like a good mounting point for a ram.
