superchip programmer questions

Sorry, nothing with an LS motor. Used one on a 96 Impala, wasn't worth the money. Off the shelf gas tuners usually suck. PM @Team208Motorsports they do custom tunes and from what I read do great stuff.

Yup, he did mine. I recommended a custom tune to my friend but he's taken with the idea of changing it on the fly. Trying to get some real world info for him to see if it's worth it.

Those "off the shelf" chips are tuned for a very specific set of parameters. If the exact same camshaft, intake, etc, etc are not on the engine the chip was tuned for, then the chip is useless.

I'm hoping Josh @Team208Motorsports has the time to chime in here, but considering this truck needs to remain emissions friendly, how much improvement could he expect to get from a custom tune? How much better would that be than a superchip tuner?

With a gas engine there is only one tune to build. This swapping on the fly thing is not going to happen, especially with 5-10 min each time you want to swap. A good clean tune will run better than ,lets call it, these gas octane tunes. Probably the only difference between them is timing mid range and up top. The awesome thing about GM ECMs from gen 3 and up is they have multiple octane tables. By that I mean you have a high timing and a low timing. Timing is then based on the octane fuel you run. It senses that by knock activity and de-rates / adds timing back according.

Now on race app stuff this all goes very different.

Sounds like I need to have him get a hold of you and discuss his expectations and limitations. :)
