I am getting ready to install the superduty towers up front and need to know what size the nut is for the shock tab. I thought it was 1/2-13 but it does not fit is it metric? Also the upper shock mount on the passenger rear stripped does anyone know how I go about getting another one of those other than a junkyard?

Thanks

Ira

If you're talking about the stock bolts/nuts for the SD towers, I'm almost 100% sure they're metric. The locking nut feature is nice, but if one is shot, why not just use a grade 8 from the hardware store? Finding another ford lock nut may be difficult, unless you are willing to spring a couple of $$ at the stealership.

no such thing as metric grade 8, they have equivalents but not grade 8. it is a metric nut for sure but i dont remember the size.

Ya I intend to buy two nuts for the upper shock stud. That is the nut size I need I already have nuts and bolts to bolt the mount to the frame. I would just prefer to not carry the mount into Lowe's when I go to get them but it might be my only choice.

I didn't think the nut was a metric. I rummaged around in my spare parts and found some locking nuts that I used. My LMC catalog also used to have the rear shock post bolt listed. I don't see it now, but I've seen them in auto parts stores. I may even have one laying about, I'll look.

I am thinking it is metric cause I used my thread pitch gauge and it was 14 TPI and the SAE 1/2 is 1/2-13. I found it kind of odd. Appreciate the help and any info you can find.

I don't remember what designation they are but they're metric. I messed around in the hardware store for 45 minutes before it dawned on me that the might not be SAE.

I'll take one of mine to work tomorrow and spec the stud out and report back.

While this may be technically true, there are corresponding higher grades for metric nuts and bolts. As I re-read the original post, know I see he referred to the shock tab, and not the mount bolts, which was what I was speaking to.
